La Vinyeta has been selected as a protagonist of the last Wines from Spain article. WFS is the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade, ICEX’s branding for a wide range of promotional activities about Spanish wines abroad. WFS selects wineries every month that are distinguished by their experience in marketing and export areas. La Vinyeta, although its small dimension, works with accurate dedication in order to to convey the essence of this spot in l’Empordà to the rest of the world. Other prestigious and well-known Catalan wineries like Torres, Juvé i Camps o Castell de Peralada, have been object of this publication. Click here to see the article

Jay Miller in the Empordà

The prescriber Jay Miller has visited the Empordà Wine Region and has tasted the wines from La Vinyeta cellar argued by his owner Josep Serra. Throughout 25 years Jay Miller has been collaborating with Robert Parker tasting Spanish wines for one of the most important wine magazines, The Wine Advocate. He was greatly surprised about the quality of the Empordà wines and also emphasized the excellent quality-price ratio of  the wines from La Vinyeta.

Dr. Jay Stuart Miller was a Clinical Psychologist specializing in child, adolescent and family therapy on a full time basis from 1973-1998 and a part time basis from 1998-2001. He received his B.A. degree from the University of California in Los Angles in 1967 and his M.S. and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1970 and 1972. Jay’s wine industry experience began in 1977 as a part time wine consultant at Wells Discount Liquors, Baltimore, MD. He moved to Calvert Discount Liquors, Cockeysville, MD, in 1980 and continued on there as a part time wine consultant for five years. In 1985 he became the part time Assistant to Robert M. Parker, Jr. at The Wine Advocate. In 1998 he left to devote his full time attention to wine sales at The Wine Source in Columbia, MD. In 2001 he became Co-owner and Manager of Bin 604 Wine Sellers in Baltimore, MD. He currently covers the wines of Oregon, Washington, Spain, Australia, South America, Greece and Vintage Ports.

For the third year last Sunday September 19th La Vinyeta was at the Llado’s Handcraft Cheese Fair. A part from the wine for the tastings, wine combinations are arranged where the relation between some cheeses and wines on the fair were discovered. In this occasion peculiar combinations were created, far away that we can be used. It was a good opportunity to know deeply some of those small artisans that has gone from living from a flock to elaborate their own products. In short, a unique experience in an exceptional environment to remain with a nice tasting…

Last weekend –from September 9th to 12th– in Figueres took place the XXVI Empordà Wine Show. Located in la Rambla –an emblematic space of the city that offers an ambient for strolling and chatting, perfect to savour wines made in our land– where more than hundred wines, sparkling wine and sweet wines are presented and can be tasted with some local food.

‘Els amics de les arts’ combined with Llavors* wine at the Festival Sons del Món

La Vinyeta winery and its carignan wine Llavors 08 give the signal to start at Sons del Món Festival accompanied with the bands of Senyors Tranquil and Els Amics de les Arts. This is a festival that combines music with wines from the DO Empordà. On this edition, the Sons del Món Festival have scheduled five concerts more and the closing concerts will be with Quico, Cèlio, Noi and Mut de Ferreries for this Friday July 9th ; Carlos Núñez, on Sunday July 11th ; Delafé y Las Flores Azules, on 17th ; Albert Pla, on 24th  and Duquende, on 30th. On August 1st the last concert was free and it took place at the Paseo Marítimo of Rosas. All the concerts were combined with wines from Empordà for the prestigious sommelier Roger Viusà. It is a Vi&Músic proposal, another offer in this festival and an experience that begun last year on the last edition of Sons del Món that got very good reception. This year, the gastronomy from Empordà plays an important role. Because, five local emergent restaurants, will dish out dinners outside the same day of the concert in two shifts, one early for the concert attendants and another later for the ones who won’t attend the concert. The restaurants are: Carles Antoner, Mas Renart, Amiel-Molins, Mas Concas and Oxid Cafè.

The Palau de Bellavista de Girona Hotel says goodbye to the 2010 edition of the Jazzsessions at the TerrACe. The closing ceremony has been taken by the duet of Mr. & Mrs. Jones, an artistic name which Keco Pujol and Marta de Paco are hidden under. As it is normal on the Jazzsessions, the musical proposal has been accompanied for the gastronomy of the Numun restaurant – Celler de Can Roca. With Jazz, Soul and Latin rhythm, personage as Josep Roca sommelier and enologist as Josep Serra from La Vinyeta winery put the sybarite touch to the music of Soniketeké, Jazz de Copes and Francesc Ubanell. This is a relaxed proposal for the cool nights of July in the capital of Girona.

Empordà wine got a very good acceptance on the first edition of Tast Empordà fair. This fair is organized for the local shop “D’aquí, d’allà i més enllà”, the Ecomuseu-Farinera and the Designation of Origin Empordà. The fair bring together a dozen of small wine producers of the Empordà region, it was accompanied for live music concert of Jordi Rubau. A part from the wines, on the fair artisanal jam was tasted.

The Designation of Origin Empordà organized a wine tasting on the top of the Puigmal Mountain, at nearly 3.000 meters of altitude. The Palamós Alpine Association collaborate on the organization of this activity, where twelve wineries from the DO Empordà have participated. The wineries that took their wines to the top in order to do this original wine tasting were: Arché Pagès, Can Sais, Celler Cooperatiu d’Espolla, Empordàlia, La Vinyeta, Mas Pòlit, Maset Plana, Oliveda, Oliver Conti, Pere Guardiola, Terra Remota, Martí Fabra and Vinyes dels Aspres. This was an original way to promote the wines from l’Empordà and symbolize the effort that these wineries are doing every day. There were 150 followers that climb with them to reach the top.

XVIII Schubertíada

On August 20th the 18th edition will be the opening ceremony with the tenor Christoph Pregardien and the pianist Michael Gees. The concert dates will be on August 21st, 24th, 27th and 28th and September 3rd and 4th.  The evening will be combined with the wine Heus Blanc from La Vinyeta winery. Les Schubertíades were born in Vienna as friends of Franz Schubert gathering. Musicians, painters, poets and music lovers used to meet to enjoy its friend’s work and other composers of that moment. After the premature composer’s dead, his friends keep on with the habit to meet. On the 70’s, coinciding with the world’s discovery of the rich and varied Schubert’s artwork, al it begun in the Viennese town of Hohenehms as an annual Schubertiada. In 1992 the association of young musicians of the Empordà “Juventuts de Música de l’Empordà” organized for the first time in our country the Schubertiada. Since then, every year there is a meeting at the Romanesque church of Santa María de Vilabertran.

We thought that we had to go further that we usually do in our visits throughout the winery. La Vinyeta has gestated a program to live with the family all the harvest process, from the ripening to the collection. The activities are carried out every Friday of the August and they include thematic visits, dance performances, dinner on the vineyards and even a family wine harvest. Then, at the beginning of the wine harvest, the winery warms itself up to face a wine harvest that is excellent foreseen.
